The husband of State Representative Denise Dittrich (DFL-Champlin/Coon Rapids) was caught stealing the lawn signs of his wife’s opponent. Allen Dittrich was caught red-handed by Ms. Dittrich’s Republican opponent John Tomczak. Mr. Tomczak did not confront Mr. Dittrich after witnessing the act. Instead, Champlin police called were informed of the theft.
The following is a statement from Mr. Tomczak:
“Ms. Dittrich and the DFL have run an extremely negative campaign against me. She has attacked me personally, threatened me with her lawyers, and now her family is out stealing lawn signs. I am shocked.
“My campaign is about ideas and moving our district forward. We have a positive message about lowering taxes, creating jobs and making our schools safe and accountable. Negative personal attacks and stealing lawn signs seems like something that would happen in an elementary school election, not a state House race.
“I am confident that despite this last-minute desperate sabotage, the voters of this district will see that I have a positive vision for the future. I will work in Saint Paul to keep a lid on taxes, continue creating jobs, and making our schools the best they can be.
“Integrity matters, and I will uphold the integrity of the office and be a Representative this district can be proud of.”
The Champlin police recovered the stolen lawn signs and have returned them back to the Tomczak campaign. A photo of Mr. Dittrich’s truck pulled over by Champlin police was taken by a Tomczak campaign volunteer.
